What's the difference between unmetered and metered service?

An unmetered service plan is billed as a flat monthly fee. You are not charged based on the number of hours you are connected to the Internet. This means that you never have to watch the clock or worry about how many hours you've used.

With a metered service plan, such as LISCO's $16.95 metered dialup, you are charged a basic monthly rate PLUS an hourly rate for any usage over a set number of hours. The $16.95 pays for the first 150 hours of service per month. If you are connected to the Internet more than 150 hours in any month, you are ALSO billed $0.50 per hour for each hour OVER 150 hours.
