The Internet is the future, and providing kids with Internet access obviously
gives them a terrific educational advantage. But today’s parents
are also concerned about providing easy access to unsuitable material
such as pornography, bomb-making instructions, or hate literature. You
want to protect your kids but it’s not practical to monitor their
Internet usage every minute. Most concerned parents would welcome an automatic
filtering solution. But there are problems with filtering systems.
The
problems with most filtering solutions
Most Internet filtering systems work by looking for certain keywords which
indicate the presence of offensive material. However, this technique can
easily produce unwanted results. For example, if you block access to web
sites that contain the word "breast" you also block out sites
with chicken recipes and mammogram information.
Filtering by keyword also will fail to block sites that have only objectionable pictures and few or no words. This is a technique that adult sites sometimes use to bypass filtering.
In addition, filtering programs that are installed on the user’s computer can slow down the computer or can too easily be disabled. Today’s kids, who are likely to be more computer savvy than their parents, can often circumvent filtering systems that reside on home computers.

technical support.
What
kind of material does LISCO Filter block?
These are the categories of subjects
blocked by LISCO Filter:
Adults Only: Material labeled by its author or publisher as being strictly for adults
Hate / Discrimination: Advocating discrimination against others based on race, religion, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation.
Illegal: Advocating, promoting, or giving advice on carrying out acts widely considered illegal. This includes lock-picking, bomb-making, fraud, breaching computer security, hacking, phone service theft, pirated software archives, or evading law enforcement.
Porn Site Material: Material intended to be sexually arousing or erotic.
Sex: Images or descriptions of sexual activity. Any sexual merchandise or sites relating to sexual fetishism.
Violence: Graphic images or written descriptions of wanton violence or grave injury, such as mutilation, maiming, dismemberment, etc. Blocks graphically violent games.
Drugs: Advocating or promoting recreational use of any controlled substance.
Profanity: Crude, vulgar, or obscene language or gestures.
Lingerie: Models in lingerie.
Nudity : Bare or visible genitalia, pubic hair, buttocks, female breasts, etc.
Suicide / Murder: Information on committing murder or suicide.
What kind of material is excepted from filtering?
Education Material: Material under another category that has educational value -- classic literature, sex education, etc.
For Kids Sites: Sites that are designed specifically for kids
Historical Material: Material that falls under another category, such as Sex or Violence, that is non-fictional and historically significant
Medical Material: Material that might be blocked under another category that relates to the study or practice of medicine
Is
LISCO Filter 100% effective?
Because the Internet is huge and growing every day, there is no filtering
system that can be 100% effective. However, the technology used in LISCO
Filter has been shown to block the vast majority of porn sites on the
Internet, with no speed penalty when accessing any other sites. And LISCO
Filter’s blocking strategy is much more accurate than keyword filter

be working for you by the next business day. We will send you an e-mail
confirming that the service has been activated.
How
do I cancel LISCO Filter if I decide I don’t want it?
If you decide you don’t like LISCO Filter, you can cancel any time.
You can cancel on line, the same way you signed up. To avoid being charged
for the next billing period, be sure to cancel before your next billing
date. There is no cancellation fee.
LISCO
Filter or LISCOJET, but not both
If you use LISCO Filter, you won't be able to also use LISCOJET
Accelerator, our service that speeds up dial-up connections. You can
use either one of these services, but because of compatibility issues
you can't use both.
