To change the device on your connection

Use these instructions if:

  • You are taking off one computer and putting on another (and you only have one IP address available)

  • You are adding a router or firewall to your connection.

Our equipment remembers the MAC address of your computer's Ethernet port. You have to release your DHCP IP back to it before it will reassign it to another device.

Instructions

First, release your IP back to LISCO from the original device.

Windows 95/98

  1. Click on Start.

  2. Click on Run.

  3. Type winipcfg (which is short for Windows IP Configuration)

  4. When the IP Configuration window opens, select your NIC card from the drop down menu.

  5. Click the Release All button.

  6. Close the window.

  7. Remove this computer from the connection.

Windows NT/2000

  1. Click on Start.

  2. Click on Run.

  3. Type command.

  4. When the DOS window opens, type (without the quotes) "ipconfig /release_all".

  5. Click the Release All button.

  6. Type exit to close the DOS window.

  7. Remove this computer from the connection.

Macintosh

  1. Click the Apple menu.

  2. Click on Control Panel.

  3. Click on TCP/IP.

  4. When the TCP/IP window opens, select another connection type.

  5. Close the window.

  6. Remove this computer from the connection.

Then install your new device on the connection, set it up to obtain an IP address automatically, and then reboot it. It should now have your IP on it.
