Support
for RDSL
If
you're a network administrator or a phone technician who
is supporting a mutual customer of ours, you've found the right place!
Basic
configuration is available here, as well as phone numbers to reach us
for questions.
Installation
Instructions
Get
a copy of LISCO's RDSL installation manual
here.
Standard
DSL install requires your gateway device to get setup info from our
DHCP server, and all of the devices in the LAN to obtain info automatically
from the gateway device.
If
static IPs were ordered, and you don't know where they are, please call
(800) 331-8414 and ask for the RDSL department.
When?
Service
will come up sometime between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM on the specified due
date. We can't tell you exactly when because the telco doesn't tell
us! It's often best to schedule an install for late afternoon or for
the morning of the next day.
Noise Filters
All
extensions of the line-sharing telephone number will have data noise
on them when service becomes active until filters are installed!
(If the modem came from LISCO, there will be two single-line filters
in the box with it.)
If
there are multiple extensions, a filter can be installed at the demark
to remove noise before it enters the location.
There
are three kinds of noise filters:
-
single-line
-
multi-line
-
wall-style
Extra
filters are available at your local Radio Shack or directly from LISCO.
NOTE:
Do not install a noise filter between the jack and the modem! It will
filter out the DSL!
Networking
DHCP
Each
account comes with a single DHCP IP. If you're installing a router or
firewall, set it up with the factory defaults and you should be fine.
If
there is no DHCP-capable device on your network, additional server-assigned
IPs can be provided at an additional
charge.
If
you just want to change computers, or insert a new router on an existing
connection, see these instructions. Our DSLAM
stores the MAC address of the NIC card it assigned an IP to. To change
devices, you have to release the IP from the first device, and then
obtain it with the new device. Otherwise, you'll get a link but no traffic!
If
you can't get an IP no matter what you do, please call (800)
331-8414 and ask for the RDSL department. We can check the DSLAM
configuration, release IPs, reset the connection for you, etc.
Static
Static
IP addresses are also available for an additional charge.
If
static IPs were ordered, and you don't know where they are, please call
(800) 331-8414 and ask for the RDSL department.
Inside Wiring
Noise
problems
There
are wiring problems known to cause excessive
noise when DSL is activated. These include bridge taps and tip &
ring reversals.
If
you're a phone tech working on a DSL noise problem and need advanced
advice, please call (800) 331-8414 and ask for the RDSL department.
Phone
systems
DSL
may be ordered on a line that goes into a PBX or KSU and is part of
a rollover group, however, the line must be filtered before the
key unit or there will be noise on all extensions when that line is
used.
Run
a jack off of the demark and put the DSL modem on it. Then run a line
from the PHONE port on the back of the modem to the key system. (The
modem has a built-in noise filter.) Run Ethernet from the modem to the
computer or server the client wants Internet available to.
No
dial tone
If
dial tone is lost on your service due date, please contact LISCO immediately
at (800) 331-8414 and ask for the RDSL department! While this is
an exceedingly rare occurrence, it indicates a faulty cable pair somewhere
that must be corrected immediately for dial tone to be restored.

Hardware
LISCO
uses RDSL, a Paradyne
Hotwire technology, to deliver DSL over POTS. If, for some reason,
you want the vendor's installation instructions, you can get them here.
