What do my results mean?

Before you order RDSL service, we will pre-qualify your telephone lines for you. When we get the results back from the telephone company, you will receive an email, a letter, and/or a call from us.

This page helps to explain the different types of results you may see.

Pass

If your line(s) passed, congratulations! You can order RDSL service by calling LISCO at (641) 472-7100 or (800) 331-8414.

See pricing details here.

Fail

There are really only two reasons why a line would fail. The most common is that your location is too far away from our CO (your line has high footage, or is on a remote switch). The other reason is there are devices on the loop that cancel out data transmission (like load coils or an SLC).

But don’t despair! If you have another telephone number, we’d be happy to pre-qualify it for you.

NOTE: If you live in Utopia Park or behind the industrial park in Fairfield, or at Bos Laanden in Pella, you are behind a SLC ("slick") and can not currently get DSL service from LISCO. Please call us to pre-qualify your lines for you.

Conditional pass

You will receive a conditional pass notification if your loop is a good length but there are removeable devices on it.

Devices, like carriers and load coils, remove (or use for themselves) the high frequencies needed for data. There are extra charges (levied by the phone company) associated with having these devices removed, and the line afterward may not be suitable for voice transmission.

In a situation like this, you can get DSL, but it will cost more and may make the telephone line unsuitable for phone conversations.

NOTE: The usual fee for removal of a load coil is $249.91. Removal of a carrier is free of charge; LISCO absorbs the cost for you.

It's been a few months. Can I try again?

If your line(s) failed a few months ago, it isn't likely that they will pass now. But feel free to call in, and we'll be happy to pre-qualify them again.
