E-Mail Settings

Thunderbird 1.5

1. Open the Thunderbird E-mail program. (To open the program, click on Start, All Programs, Thunderbird. Alternatively, you can double-click on the Thunderbird icon on the Desktop.)
 
2. Select "Local Folders" and click on "Create a New Account"

Or, click on the Tools Menu, and then click on "Account Settings".  Then click the "Add Account" button.
 
3. In the Your Name field, type in your name.  This field can be anything (spaces and capital letters are allowed.
 
4. For "E-mail address" field, type in username@lisco.com
(In other words, type in your username, immediately followed by "lisco.com") This should be typed all in lowercase, with no spaces or punctuation.
 
5. Select POP as the type of Email Server
 
6. For the Incoming Server, type in pop.lisco.com
This should be all in lowercase.
 
7. The Use Global Inbox setting should be checked if you only have 1 LISCO email address that you are using in this program.  If you are setting up a second email address in Thunderbird, uncheck this box.

Then click Next.
 
8. In the "Incoming User Name" field, type in your LISCO username. (Remember: your LISCO username does not contain the "@lisco.com.")  Click Next.
 
9. For the "Account Name" field, you can name this account.  This can be your Email Address, or anything to identify which email address this account is checking.  This is only a name, and has nothing to do with your ability to access or send email.  Spaces, capital letters, and punctuations are allowed.  Click Next
 
10. Leave the Check in "Download Messages Now" and click Finish.
 
11. To view the account you created, click on the Tools Menu, and then click on "Account Settings".
 

12. You can see your Name and Email Address when your address is selected in the Category column to the left.
 


 

13. Clicking on the Server Settings category displays the Server Name (pop.lisco.com) and your LISCO username (your email address without the "@lisco.com").  In the Security Settings, you need to select "Never" in the category for "Use Secure Connection" as otherwise you won't be able to access your LISCO email.

On this page there are other settings you can configure to determine how your program behaves.
 


 

14. Clicking on the Outgoing Server (SMTP) category will display your SMTP servers.  Click the "Edit" button on the right for special options.
 


 

15. The Description field can be left blank.

The Server Name must be out.lisco.com, and the port must remain 25.

In the Security and Authentication section, place a check in Use name and password, and type in your LISCO username (again, your email address without the "@lisco.com").

In the "Use Secure Connection" section, you need to select "Never" in the category for  as otherwise you won't be able to access your LISCO email.

Click OK to save the changes.
 
16. Click OK to close out of the Account Settings Window.
 
17. When you click "Check Mail" you will be prompted to input your LISCO password.  If you decide to check "Use Password Manager to remember this password" your password will automatically be saved in your program.  If you do enter it now, you won't be prompted for your password every time you send/receive email. On the other hand, by leaving this field blank you will prevent others from opening the program and accessing your mail.
 
18. In the future, whenever you want to get your mail, here's what to do:
a. Connect to LISCO.
b. Open Thunderbird.
c. Click the "Get Mail" button
