Connection Settings for
Windows 95
and
Windows 98

1. Close all programs and windows and go to the Desktop.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
3. Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.
4. If you see a LISCO icon in the window (such as "LISCO-Pella") go to step 13.
5. If you do not see a LISCO icon, go to step 6.

 

 

 

If You Don't See a LISCO Icon

6. Double-Click on the Make New Connection icon.
7. Where it asks for a name of the computer you are dialing, type in "LISCO-Pella" (or whatever is appropriate for your LISCO area).
8. Click on the Next button.

 

 

9. Type in the area code of the LISCO local access telephone number.
10. Type in the LISCO local access telephone number. (Get this from the Welcome Letter you received when you signed up with LISCO.)
11. Click on the Next button.
12. Click on the Finish button. A new icon ("LISCO-Pella") has now been created that will appear in your Dial-Up Networking window.

 

Warning: Be sure to check that the LISCO local access telephone number you choose is a local call from your phone. If you have any doubt about whether the call will be toll-free, contact your telephone company. LISCO is not responsible for any long distance charges incurred.

 

13. Right-click on the LISCO icon.
14. Click on Properties. The settings window will appear with the General tab selected.

 

 

14. Confirm that the correct telephone number is listed.
15. If there is a checkmark in the little box to the left of "Use area code and Dialing Properties," click on the checkmark to remove it.
16. Click on the Server Types tab.

 

 

17. For "Type of Dial-Up Server," select PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98.
18. The only option or protocol that should have a checkmark next to it is TCP/IP. (If anything else has a checkmark, click on the checkmark to uncheck it.)
19. Click on the TCP/IP Settings button. The TCP/IP Settings window will appear.

 

20. Select Server assigned IP address.
21. Select Specify name server addresses.
22. Press the TAB key on your keyboard. The cursor will jump down to the left-hand side of the Primary DNS field.
23. Type in the numbers  69.18.32.50
24. Press the TAB key. The cursor will jump down to the left-hand side of the Secondary DNS field
25. Type in the numbers 69.18.32.51
26. Confirm that the numbers on your conputer's screen are the same as the numbers shown to the left.
27. Use default gateway should be checked, but Use IP header compression should not be checked.
28. Click on the OK button.
29. Click on the OK button in the remaining dialog boxes to close them. Then close the Dial-Up Networking and My Computer windows.
 
Warning: Before you proceed to the following steps, make sure you have your Windows 95 or Windows 98 CD-ROM or diskettes available. You may be asked to insert the CD or diskettes, so if you do not have them available now, do not proceed.

 

30. Click on the Start button, choose Settings, then Control Panel.
31. Double-click on the Network icon. The Network window will appear.
32. In the list that appears below the words, "The following network components are installed," double-click on either TCP/IP or TCP/IP->Dail-Up Adapter. You may have to scroll down to find one of these items. (If neither of these two components are listed, call LISCO's technical service department.) The TCP/IP Properties window will appear.
33. Click on the DNS Configuration tab.

 

 

34. Select Enable DNS.
35. In the Host field, type in your LISCO username (no @lisco.com).
36. In the Domain field, type in "lisco.com"
37. See if there are any number in the second field below the words, DNS Server Search Order (in other words, just to the left of the Remove button).
--If any numbers are listed, select them and click the Remove button.  Then go to step 38.
--If there are no numbers, go to step 38.

 

 

If No Numbers Are Listed

38. Position your mouse pointer to the left of the left-most period in the field that is just below the words, "DNS Server Search Order." Press the left mouse button to position the cursor at that point.
39. Type in the numbers 69.18.32.50
40. Click on the Add button. The line of numbers will jump down to the field that is to the left of the Remove button.
41. Position your mouse pointer to the left of the left-most period in the field that is just below the words, "DNS Server Search Order." Press the left mouse button to position the cursor at that point.
42. Type in the numbers 69.18.32.51
43. Click on the Add button. The line of numbers will jump down to the field that is to the left of the Remove button.

 

 

55. The numbers 69.18.32.50
and 69.18.32.51 should be in the field just to the left of the Remove button.
56.

Click on the OK button.

57. Click on the OK button to close the Network window.
