Outlook Express 5
Newsgroup Settings

1. Open the Outlook Express E-mail program. (To open the program, click on Start, Programs, Outlook Express. Alternatively, you can double-click on the Outlook Express icon on the Desktop.)
2. Click on the Tools pull-down menu, then click on Accounts. The Internet Accounts box will appear.
3. Click on the News tab.

4. If there is a account listed that is called "news.lisco.com," go to step 5.
If such an account is not listed, go to step 17.
5. Click on the "news.lisco.com" listing. The item will become highlighted.
6. Click on the Properties button. The Properties box will appear, with the General tab selected.

 

7. Your name should appear in the "Name" field. (This name will appear in the From field whenever you post a message to a newsgroup.)
8. Your e-mail address should appear in the "E-mail address" field. This should be in all lowercase, with no spaces or punctuation.
9. Click on the Server tab. The Server box will appear.

10. Confirm that there is not a checkmark in the small white box that is to the left of the words "This server requires me to log on." (If there is a checkmark there, click on the small white box to remove the checkmark.)
11. Click on the Connection tab. The Connection box will appear.

12. Make sure there is a checkmark in the small white box that is to the left of the words "Always connect to this account using." (If there is no checkmark, click in the box to check it.)
13. Make sure that the appropriate LISCO account for your area is displayed. (You can select the account from the pull-down menu by clicking on the small black triangle.)
14. Click on the OK button. This will close the Connection box.
15. Click on the Close box. This will close the Internet Connections box.
16. Your newsgroup settings are now properly configured, so anytime you like you can start reading and posting newsgroup messages. (For help on using newsgroups, click on Help from the pull-down menu in Outlook Express, then search for instructions on Newsgroups.)

   

If You Did Not Find a "news.lisco.com" Account

 
If there was no news.lisco.com account when you opened the Internet Accounts box (see step 4, above), follow the steps below.


17. With the Internet Accounts box open, click on the Add button, then select News. The Internet Connection Wizard box will appear.

 

 

18. For "Display name," type in what you would like your display name to be.
19. Click on the Next button. The E-Mail Address box will appear.

 

 

20. For "E-mail address," type in username@lisco.com
(In other words, type in your username, immediately followed by "lisco.com") This should be typed all in lowercase, with no spaces or punctuation.
21. Click on the Next button. The News Server box will appear.

 

22. For "News (NNTP) server," type in news.lisco.com
This should be typed all in lowercase.
23. There should not be a checkmark in the small white box that's to the left of "My news server requires me to log on."
24. Click on the Next button. The Congradulations box will appear.
25. Click on the Finish button.
